Comrades and Friends
SYNOPSIS
In 1988 Tony Benn announced he was to challenge Neil Kinnock for the leadership of the Labour Party. ‘Comrades and Friends’ follows his campaign and explores his radical arguments for democratic socialism. With almost unlimited access, Krishnamma and Godwin observe a side of political life usually ignored by journalists and commentators. Benn’s aim was to raise key issues during the campaign in a move he hoped would bring the Labour Party back in touch with its core values. This is an intimate portrait of a man who has variously been described as the most popular or the most dangerous politician in Britain.
